Testimonials

“Amazing instructional lesson. The Edinburgh video gives a great insight into painting live at the location. I could see how he deals with the light as it changes in the video. I personally benefited from Mr Marco’s lessons a lot. It takes a few watches of the same video or lesson to truly learn. But i do and after i put it to practice it really shows. My art have improved immensely from his lesson.”

“Bucci's instruction is dead on! Very clear, well demonstrated, and most importantly, really useful. After you watch any of these, the next time you put pencil, brush or stylus to surface I would almost guarantee you will feel their influence helping you to clarify and improve whatever you're trying to communicate. I find Bucci to be an excellent teacher and communicator and highly recommend him. Plus, you gotta love someone who can present all this with a sense of humor, wonderful stuff!”

Meet Marco

Marco Bucci

Illustrator | Educator

Marco Bucci recognized two things at a young age. The first was that he wanted to become a professional artist. The second was that he couldn't draw. This delayed him for quite some time. He filled that time pursuing other artistic interests such as music and writing, but the urge to draw never left him. At age 19 he began to study classical drawing, which led him to kindle a love for painting and illustration. He hasn't looked back since. Marco's experience includes books, film, animation, and advertising. His clients include: Walt Disney Publishing Worldwide, LEGO, LucasArts, Mattel Toys, Fisher-Price, Hasbro, Nelvana, GURU Studio, C.O.R.E. Digital Pictures, Yowza! Animation Inc., Pipeline Studios, and more.

Frequently Asked Questions

There are no absolute requirements, but I do recommend having a tablet (a product like Wacom or Huion, for example) as well as a digital painting application.

For traditional media, any brand of watercolors and gouache will work, though do not recommend student-grade paints. I use brands like Winsor&Newton, Holbein, and Daniel Smith. I also recommend using at least 140lb paper, as anything thinner will not be able to survive multiple washes.

If you’re interested in painting, I think the best place to begin is at my YouTube channel. I have many short lessons there covering a whole slew of important art fundamentals. Then I recommend purchasing the videos in the Digital Painting series, as those videos feature in-depth demonstrations, in real time, of which fundamentals I am applying, and how I am applying them.

Understanding and Painting the Head is also a good choice for beginners who have a little bit of drawing experience, but want to know how to take the next steps and develop good habits.

Illustrating Children’s Books will take you through many important fundamental drawing and painting lessons, applicable to any project or medium.
