This is my first approach to colour theory and I feel it's very complete; I do need to revisit the course because there's so much content in each chapter, but that's what we want, right? A comprehensive guide. I really like the exercises in the final chapter; I feel it's something to structure my study and to begin by.

If there is anything Marco Bucci is known for unanimously, it is how to use color. This guide is an easy to follow, yet incredibly in depth break down of how color can be used and how to make colors on a page work in harmony. Unlike the limitations of YouTube where he can only break something down into a 10 minute video, these lessons are free from restraints of the algorithm. Marco delves deep into the subject of color and gives practical exercises that can be done quickly. No words are wasted in the Color Survival Guide, and you come away from it a better artist than you started. I recommend this guide for painters of every kind, digital or other, as these lessons and even the assignments can be done with both traditional and digital mediums. These series of lessons are Marco Bucci's wheelhouse, I have never met another artist with more of a grasp on color theory than him, and his expertise shows through the elegant and thorough way he teaches in these videos.

Marco Bucci is an excellent educator. I saw his talk at Lightbox Expo 2024 on Pleine Aire Painting for Introverts and it was my second experience of his style of teaching and talking. It sealed it for me: this is a person who has both the skill and the clarity to help me. While there are things I think that could use deeper exposition, Marco provides more than enough information in the lessons to balance the demos' excellent content, contextualizing the lessons. The exercises for each chapter are intuitive and ultimately freeing, if you have ever found, as I have, that working with colour to be something of a dark art, the power of which is only available to the initiated. Painting along and doing the exercises several times with different colours and images has really helped me make sense of the relative nature of colour, bringing it out of the realm of frustration and placing it more firmly into my toolbox as a painter. One niggle is that there is no way to directly ask questions about the lessons within the platform, but he is not hard to find. But, often enough my questions are things that I can work out if I do the exercises a few times, zeroing in on the things that I need to go deeper on. But sometimes, others will have the same questions and Marco may have to answer the same ones over and over. EDIT: I just finished the course and I am very pleased with the purchase. I came to this course thinking I know a lot about color, and I do. I am happy to say that I learned a lot more than I expected to learn about color from this course. And I enjoyed the presentation. I've already made drastic improvements to my painting as several times I felt compelled to stop the course and paint things based on what I'd just learned. I've finished all of the modules but I know I'm going to continue to have fun with them well into the future. Painting has already become more enjoyable and the results, stunningly improved.

What a wonderful introduction to color theory. I say introduction, but all of the chapters are chock full of digestible and straight-to-the point information. None of the time spent on this course felt like a waste. Needless to say, this course is one that I can see many people will continue to revisit, myself included. Color and painting has always been a gargantuan wall for my art journey, and Marco just has a way of words and teaching that every chapter had its "a-ha" moment for me. I come from a more technical and graphic design background and have taken color theory classes before, but this course stands out amongst the rest. Thank you Marco for your content and this course. I've come out much more confident and ambitious to learn and experiment with color and painting after this course. I look forward to future content and courses I go through!

I’ve always felt insecure about coloring my art. When I drew traditionally I would often consider myself finished in the sketch phase because I was scared of ”ruining my art” by adding color. This course broke down color theory in a way that is easy to understand and is filled with practical exercises that I will keep using to deepen my understanding further. I will probably come back and rewatch the material again and again until I feel that it really sticks. Money well spent!

I'm obsessed observing everything, matching values, saturation, and analyzing against everything I've learned in this course. I've purchase almost every Marco's course, he's a great communicator and makes easy to get the concepts, encourage to experiment, to get your canvas and your brushes to start doing. I love putting colors against others, play with saturation, play with brushstrokes, etc. Thank you Marco and looking forward to seeing more knowledge and experience from you.

This course has opened my eyes how to properly approach colours. I had an idea before, with colours that work together but seeing how it shifts from one another and how light and shadow actually influence the colours, in such simple terms, it was just the best course I've taken. Thorough lessons about perceiving colors, their movements in different conditions. Everything is well explain. This is just like a magic color trip to me.

I enjoy this course. I was really stuck on understanding how to get the right colours, and I was wondering, "how does this work realistically..." because I wanted it to look pleasing but still realistic. It has really helped me with the fundamentals; the choices are easier. I still go back on the course sometimes when I forget some things. I only wish I could ask more questions throughout the course, but this has filled a massive gap in my knowledge!

I learnt a lot in this class, and i would recommend this to anyone getting started in colour. Simple and concise.

Marco Bucci has a special way of teaching things. And I've done a lot of different great courses on color and light! (from Nathan Fowkes, Ahmed Aldoori, Zac Retz, Craig Mullins...) All of them very good of course. But sometimes you need someone to use just the right words to take it to another level. And this course made a lot of things click for me :)

Marco Bucci's explanation of colour is a life-saver for someone who is more used to traditional art and struggles with the millions of options in digital art: he has shown me a way to paint digitally that feels akin to traditional, and helped me understand colour better than anyone else!
